Product Description

The Queyrans family has owned Chateau de la Bouyere for more than a century.  The vineyard is located at the Donzac, 45 km to the south of Bordeaux.  Grape production, winemaking and aging all take place on the family estate.  Vines have an average age of 30 years.

Region/Terroir:  AOC Bordeaux Blanc

Grapes:  Semillon (80%), Sauvignon Blanc (20%).

Alcohol:  12.5% VOL

Soil:  Clay limestone.

Wine making:  Grapes are carefully selected and harvested at optimum ripeness.  Fermentation occurs in thermo-regulated stainless steel vats. The Semillion and Sauvignon wines are blended and aged on lees.

Ageing:  Last tasted September 2022 and is currently drinking well.  Serve at a cool temperature around 12°C.

Our Tasting notes:  Lovely pale golden colour with little hints of green. An expressive nose with fragrances of citrus fruits that evolve towards nuances of tropical fruits.  The mouth is harmonious and fruity with a great round, rich mouth feel due to the ageing on fine lees.  Delicate and balanced.  A lovely wine at this price.

Here's some typical feed-back on this wine : "One of the best white wines I have had in a long time. Incredible value and great with Bangalow pork belly" Jan Brisbane December 2013.

The 2013 vintage was reviewed by Sean Mitchell in the Grape Observer August 2014 " This Bordeaux blanc from 2013 vintage of Château de la Bouyère is a particularly good example of its style.  It's a blend of 80% semillon and 20% sauvignon, and sees little or no oak influence.  Its aromatics are attractive, with notes of grass from the sauvignon blanc, together with hints of lemon, green apple and white peach with time in the glass.  The palate is particularly balanced, with flavours reminding of lemon and dried herbs.  A pleasing acidity seamlessly threads together its component parts and gives this wine a pleasing freshness.  This is an excellent release, will work very well with or without food, and could replace more than a few Kiwi sauvignon blancs on the table." We think this new vintage is just as good.

A stylish wine.  Crisp and refreshing, a great quaffer, perfect with salads.
