Chateau Petit Figeac

Château Figeac  a Premier Grand Cru Classé is one of the most important and largest St. Émilion estates, dating back at least as far as the 2nd century AD. It lies in the north-west of the appellation alongside Cheval Blanc in what’s known as the ‘Graves de Saint Émilion’.  Figeac belonged to the same family for 500 years until the 19th Century when much of the estate was sold off. The current family bought it in 1892 and since 1947 it has been run by Thierry Manoncourt who has managed to buy back some of former parts of the estate.

Set in the heart of St Émilion alongside Cheval Blanc, the wines of Petit Figeac are often considered the ‘most Médoc of St Émilions’. This is due to the gravelly soil (rather than clay) in this part of the appellation, which means that Château Figeac and Petit Figeac use completely different proportions of grape varieties to other St Émilion producers: 70% Cabernet (half Cabernet Franc, half Cabernet Sauvignon) and only 30% Merlot.

Crafted to be a stylistic introduction to Figeac itself, Petit Figeac is a micro-cuvée blend coming from some of Château Figeac’s best parcels. This exceptional wine encapsulates the unique style of Figeac’s Cabernets, combined with a touch of Merlot, ensuring a silky texture thanks to a very gentle barrel ageing in French oak.
