This wine has had 3 reviews in the local wine media:

Sean Mitchell in the Grape Observer  said: "This particular wine, a Madiran from Domaine du Crampilh, has a medium to pronounced intensity purple in colour in the glass, suggesting a ripeness that the warm 2009 vintage brought to most of France, and nearby Bordeaux in particular.  Its aroma is developing and has rustic expressions of clove, blackberry, earth, plum skins and some animal notes.  Its palate is dry, with medium acid and ripe and chalky tannins, with blackberries, earth, cloves and plums skins carrying through to the palate.  This is a good wine that presented well due to its balance, some complexity in expression of its flavours and quite good length, and I expect will keep and improve for at least five years, and be drinking well for longer.  Good. "

Winsor Dobbin in Ciao magazine : "I opened several reds the other night and this proved far more drinkable than any of the macho Australians. Four generations of the Oulié family have made wines in Madiran, near the Pyrenees mountains, and this is a medium-bodied red made from 100% old vine tannat grapes that has plenty of authentic French rustic notes but is at the same time clean and fresh."

Wine writer Wine without BS "Easily the most drinkable 100% Tannat I can recall and I enjoyed every drop and I can report that it went amazingly well with a bit of aged cheddar."

Decanter Magazine ran a feature of the wines of Madiran written by Paul Strang an expert in wines of South West France. Domaine du Cramplih was cited as one of the Madiran wineries moving to an easier-drinking style.  This wine the Doamine du Crampilh, Vielles Vignes, Madiran 2009 was given 18 (93) points "An all tannat wine from the oldest parcels in this long-established vineyard. Aged in used barrels for 12 months. Still wine vanilla from the wood, blending well with old leather and black fruits. Cool but peppery on the palate and the tannins are not challenging. Drink 2014-2020."
