Product Description

This is the second wine of Pomerol producer Château Nénin. The second wine is made from grapes from younger vines. This was a stand-out on a recent trip to Bordeaux and so we bought some on the spot.

As usual, in good years such as this, the second wines offer excellent value for money.

If you're looking for a properly aged Bordeaux to drink right now, that's not priced astronomically, this is it.

Nenin is one of the largest producers on the south-western slopes of Pomerol. It was bought in 1997 by the Delon family, proprietors of Château Léoville-Las Cases and Château Potensac. Consultancy is provided by the oenologist Michel Rolland.

Region/Terroir:  Pomerol

Grapes:  100% merlot

Soil:  Classic Pomerol clay.

Alcohol:  12.5% VOL

Cellaring potential:  Ready to enjoy but will keep for another 3-5 years.

Our Tasting notes:  Right bank Bordeaux hitting its straps. Lovely tobacco, plums and prunes. On the palate is elegant plush ripe plum with tobacco, cedar and a lovely roasted smoky spice. Long layered, balanced, with dark fruit, subtle herb notes and freshly roasted coffee and chocolate with soft tannins. Lovely. And at this price....wow!

Reviews/Accolades:

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: The palate is quite sweet with a note of fig and raisin. Firm, well-integrated tannins with a rich black, liquorice finish. Very good for a second wine....” (NM-Wine Journal)
