Product Description

The Keys of Pope Clement (The Keys of Pape Clément) is the second label of the Grand Cru Classé producer Château de Pape Clément. This is one of the oldest vineyards in Bordeaux. Bernard de Goth who was elected Pope in 1305 originally planted vines there in the XIIIth Century. Until the French Revolution the château belonged to the Archbishop of Bordeaux. Wine has been made here continuously for seven centuries. The vines used to produce this wine have an average age of 30 years

Region / Terroir:  Pessac-Leognan

Grapes : Cabernet Sauvignon (60%), Merlot (40%).

Soil:  Gravel with a table of clay.

Alcohol: 14% VOL

Wine making:   Grapes are sorted in the vineyard, harvested by hand into small crates, manually destemmed and placed in wooden vats for cool pre-fermentation maceration. After fermentation the wine is run off using gravity into new French oak barrels and aged for 18 months.

Cellaring potential:  Driking well now.

Our Tasting notes : A revelation! Rich nose with spice, red fruit, minerals, and tobacco. Beautiful fruit with chocolate and dried fruits, but beautifully restrained. Soft tannins, long and balanced.
