May Newsletter

vineyardbergerac.jpg

Thanks for opening our May newsletter. We hope you will enjoy browsing our news, some recent reviews, upcoming events and this months special offer (see below).

We have had lots of news this month, including reviews for Chateau Semeillan Mazeau (a fab ready to drink Bordeaux from an organic producer), not one but 2 regional awards to Chateau Jolys in the Decanter world wine awards 2013, Domaine du Cramplih Vignes Vielles 2009 featuring in June Decanter magazine article on Madiran and a great local review for Domaine Bellegarde La Pierre Blanche Jurançon sec 2009.

Inspired by the Rouge Tomate restaurant in NYC we've written a blog on organic v biodynamic wines.

Recently 2 particularly interesting articles were published about the wines of south-west France - one from the Washington Post and the other from The Guardian. The wines of the region continue to receive international media and trade attention. This week Jane Parkinson at the London Wine Fair hosted a packed master class on the indigenous varieties of the south-west of France. We asked her (via twitter) if these were the next big thing? Her reply: "they already are"! Well maybe not quite the next big thing but there is no doubt that the region continues to gain attention.

We also would like to remind you of our wine club  Bordeaux Bespoke. Every 3 months we will send a selection of wine for you to explore. Bespoke, meaning tailored, means you are in control of how many you receive. See here for details...

Hope to see you at one of our upcoming events but in the meantime drink well!

bottle shot ch de saurs gaillac moelleux

Deal of the month-exclusive to our newsletter recipients!

Time to try something different! Chateau de Saurs AOC Gaillac Blanc Doux 2009  is made from Loin de l'Oeil ('Lew-an-de-le-oh-eye") grapes - an ancient variety indigenous to the Gaillac region by one of the leading (and organic) producers. Trust us! This is a delicious dessert wine - tropical fruit, apples, pears and citrus. The mouth-feel is rich but has a fresh and balanced finish. The French match it to foie gras/paté, but we love it with fruit desserts, cream brulée or a cheese plate. RRP $30, we are offering these for $20 each (750ml) . Be quick only x7 6-packs left. Call 02 6020 6016 or go on-line and use code EYE at the checkout.

bottle shot ch semeillan mazeau

Ch Semeillan Mazeau 2005 90 points Ralph Kyte Powell

This wine ticks a lot of boxes. Affordable. Organic producer. Classic Bordeaux blend. Great vintage. Ready to drink. A review in The Age Epicure by Ralph Kyte Powell. And a review by Winsor Dobbin "Soft, complex and round, this is a wine of great length and elegance with not the slightest hint of greeness. Its quality puts to shame many bigger-name Bordeauxs at double, even triple, the price. This is drinking beautifully now and no doubt for some years to come." $49
bottle shot domaine crampilh vignes vielles 2009
New wine featured June Decanter magazine: Domaine du Crampilh Vignes Vielles Madiran 2009 The new vintage of this wine from Madiran made from tannat grapes has made an immediate splash with 2 reviews in the oz wine media. This week it was one of 8 wines featured in a review of the Madiran wine region by Decanter magazine. Made from old vines using modern techniques. Rich, clean & balanced - full of character, flavour and authenticity! A classic from south-west France. "Far more drinkable than some macho aussie reds" says Winsor Dobbin! $38.40
