Thanks for opening our September newsletter. We hope that you will enjoy browsing our news, some recent reviews, upcoming events and this month's special offer (be quick!).

Get set for Spring/Summer

As the weather warms up so do the rosé sales take off. Pictured above is the fabulous Domaine de la Croix Irrésistible Rosé 2011 in this handsome looking bottle. But not only does it look good but it tastes great and has attracted reviews in Australia and internationally. From one of the handful of cru classé producers in Provence. It is excellent value at $29.90

Our best selling wine for 2012 was Chateau La Rayre Rosé. As suggested by the darker colour, this is a richer style than the Domaine de la Croix. It has "converted" many customers to the wonders of dry rosé. Excellent with pre-dinner nibbles, noodles, curries, bbq or just on its own. A new vintage 2012 has just arrived this week. Great price $24.90

One other new wine has arrived this week...

Chateau de la Bouyere Bordeaux Blanc 2012. A blend of semillon and sauvignon blanc. Crisp fruit and lovely soft mouth feel, excellent length and balance. Again one of our best sellers last summer $22.50

Other news
Lastly we just wanted to mention two venues that have recently listed some of our wines. Reserve Wine Bar in Newcastle which opens any day, andThe Commoner in Fitzroy which is back in business after a devastating fire which destroyed their kitchen. Please give them your support.

Hope to see you at one of our upcoming events but in the meantime drink well!

Runout - end of a line.

This month we are running out the last of the 2006 vintage ofDomaine du Crampilh Vignes Veilles.

This is a powerful multi-award winning wine from a well-regarded producer in the Madiran region. The wines of this region date back to roman times but were made famous by pilgrims passing through the region. Modern techniques have brought out the best from this wine. Made from 70% Tannat and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon.  A beautiful deep purple colour. An intense and savoury nose with black fruits, vanilla and leather. A concentrated palate with rich black fruit and peppery spices balanced with great structure, fine chalky tannins and acid. Excellent value as this wine was awarded 2 stars in France’s prestigious wine guide the Guide Hachette 2010.  Reviewed by Kerry Skinner August 6, 2011: "powerful, brooding blend of tannat and cabernet sauvignon, rippling with layers of black fruit, spice and peppery, good balance and supple tannins" We are selling for $24.90 per bottles which is $5 off per bottle. Stocks are very limited so best to call to secure some bottles  Call 02 6020 6016 or 0414 596 395

Current Staff Favourite

Chateau Jolys Jurançon Sec Blanc 2011

Huon Hooke gave it 92 points and named it "Best Import" in Sydney Morning Herald June 2013 .
Recently sommelier Peter Healy reviewed it in his blog George the Grape : "I think Petit Manseng in particular is an exciting grape. Capable of developing high sugar levels without losing its crisp, refreshing acidity. When in balance it gives you a refreshing drink that ‘moves’ in your mouth like a spinning dancer.  With an initial boof of amazing sweet tropical fruits counter balanced by a late flick of dry extract that keeps your palate on its toes.  This wine offers such a diverse array of uses- great aperitif, wraps itself all over rich runny Brie style cheeses or keeps good pace with lightly spiced foods- Chicken Larb comes to mind." $27.75

Chateau Haut-Vigneau 2009     (Pessac-Leognan) $38 - Typifies the silky tannins, minerals and structure of the wines of Pessac-Leognan on the outskirts of Bordeaux (drinking now but keep until 2020+).

Featured wine:

Producteurs Plaimont Saint Albert Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh 2009

Huon Hooke made this wine "Best import" in Hooked on Wine August 27th, 2013. "The white wine of the Madiran region, Pacherenc is a deep golden colour and is sweet, rich and very textural. Smoke and citrus peels figure on the nose, with some toasty age. A slight grip and some grapefruity bitterness help dry the finish. Marvellous flavour, balance and drinkability. Drink now. 12.5 per cent alcohol. 92/100 (Huon’s Wine 360) $41.50
