We understand one of our lovely dessert wines- Producteurs Plaimont St Albert 2009 - will be reviewed by Huon Hooke in the Sydney Morning Herald this Tuesday 27th August. Its one of our favourites and we love pulling a bottle out of the cellar for a special meal. It's great with birthday cake! We will update this link once the review is up.
Hope to see you at one of our upcoming events but in the meantime drink well!
Pre-arrival offer on Magnums of rosé- 20% off Domaine de la Croix, Irresistable, AOC Cotes de Provence, 2012, Magnum (1500 ml) This is the new vintage of one of our best selling wines. One of the best producers in Provence (according to Vigneron magazine in France) and is designated cru classé, which very few producers have. The bottle looks stunning and the wine is like velvet in the mouth! The magnums were very popular last spring and sold out rapidly. We secured an allocation and are offering this special pre-arrival price. Expected to arrive by end of September. 1500ml (or 2 standard bottles) and bound to make a statement on any table this spring/summer. Usually $55 for 1500ml 20% off = $44 until September 30. Call 02 6020 6016 or mail@discovervin.com.au
Southwest France – like a box of chocolates - Blog from Quentin Sadler
An Interesting blog about the variety of wines in south-west France by english wine writer Quentin Sadler. This review of the region also includes a review of Productuers Plaimont St Albert which will be in the SMH Tuesday 27th August .
Current Staff Favourite Domaine Lagrezette Malbec 2005 From the exceptional vintage of 2005, this is textbook Malbec from Domaine de Lagrézette in the Cahors region. This wine has won many awardsand accolades. Best with food, the classic food match is truffles but if ever there was an excuse needed to fire up the barbie -this wine is it! This video demonstrates the passion the producers of Cahors have for truffles and Malbec. This vintage is drinking beautifully. Inky purple colour. On the palate lovely blackcurrent and plum fruit, spice and minerals.Beautifully balanced, mid-weight, with fine chalky tannins, great structure and balance, long and satisfying. $49.40
Several customers ask us for suggestions of wines to put in the cellar. Here are some of our current suggestions at different price points (posted May 2013). These offer good drinking now but will repay some time in the cellar. They have proven very popular since they were launched 2 months ago.
Legende de la Tour Carnet 2004 (Medoc) $48 - The second wine (younger vines) from a great Bordeaux producer from a great year (keep until 2020).
Chateau Lagarde 2009 (Saint Emilion)$29.90 - If you are a fan of Saint Émilion or Merlot, or just looking for a good wine at a great price, it’s pretty hard to go past this wine! (2013-2018). Chateau Haut-Vigneau 2009 (Pessac-Leognan) $38 - Typifies the silky tannins, minerals and structure of the wines of Pessac-Leognan on the outskirts of Bordeaux (drinking now but keep until 2020+).
Wine Column Wine without BS called this one of two affordable French wines that they actually liked! (The other was Domaine du Crampilh Madiran Vignes VIelles 2009) "this wine drank much better than I expected for a Bordeaux priced at under $30!... Enjoyable to drink, this wine benefited greatly from decanting and was at its best over an hour later. Definitely a great entry level Bordeaux for people looking to experience it perhaps for the first time." $29.90
