Hooray we now have a Champagne in our range! Many of you have been asking us to find a good value Champagne. We finally have one - just in time for the spring racing carnival, end of year festivities, New Years Eve etc ! It's a delightful, delicious Champagne at a great price.
It won 2 stars in the Guide Hachette in 2014 (one of the main French wine guides) which puts it up there with the best of the famous brands. It is getting great feedback from the oz wine trade.
Excuse our french translation of the Guide's notes: "Its golden colour invites you to smell citrus fruits and white stone fruit which one finds in the mouth. Nice to taste, generous, suave and balanced. This bottle will hold its own well enough as an aperitif or with a meal".
Winemaker Maxime Mansard is the fifth generation of winemakers. The family used to sell their grapes to the famous Champagne houses but now they focusing on making their own.
To celebrate we are offering 10% off, or $48.60 per bottle (usual price is $54 per bottle).
Minimum order 6 bottles.

Events:
November is set to be a busy month for events.
We are looking forward to seeing our friends in Sydney for a great night of wine and food at Bishop Sessa, 527 Crown Street, Surry Hills on Thursday November 6th. It will be a pleasure to see what amazing things chef Paul Cooper comes up with. Have a look and see what customers have been saying recently about Bishop Sessa on Trip Advisor. We know the wines will be great! Call 02 8065 7223 to secure your spot.
A dinner also on November 20 featuring the wines of south-west France's famous Producteurs Plaimont, matched to the food of master chef Serge Dansereau and presented by Anais Breham at Bathers Pavillion at Balmoral Beach. Some fine food and rare wines will be presented. More details to follow but mark your diaries now.
But the biggy for us coming up is on November 21-23, the Paris to Provence (Melbourne French Festival) at Como House in South Yarra. It is an excellent event. Come by and say bonjour and have a glass of wine!
More dinners will be added as dates are confirmed - we hope that a dinner in Albury-Wodonga and Brisbane to be confirmed soon.
We are booked for a special wine dinner at Stokehouse City in March 2015 as part of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival. We will let you all know when tickets are going on sale.
See our events page for details as they are added. |

THREE FINE RED WINES FROM BORDEAUX
The August/September Edition of Gourmet Wine Traveller includes a feature on Bordeaux Wines.
We had 3 wines featured in this review of the best wines under $100, including one, Tourelles de Longueville 2008 (under screw cap!) which made the top 10.
We are almost out of the Tourelles de Longueville and Haut-Vigneau. We have had reinforcements of Chateau Laroche Joubert arrive from France.
Here are some details on the 3 wines:
Chateau Laroche Joubert 2011
From the Cotes du Bourg appellation on the right bank, the vineyards of Laroche Joubert face the Margaux vineyards across the Gironde estuary. They consistently produce very good, approachable merlot based wines at an excellent price. 60% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Malbec. Long maceration for 3-4 weeks in small temperature controlled vats. Aged for 12 months in oak. A delicious wine, with lovely plummy fruit and minerality, a good balance and nice tannins. Excellent value for money. A good example of what the small producers in Bordeaux can do $29.90. Our stocks of 2010 sold rapidly - be quick to buy the 2011 - it's just as delicious!
Chateau Haut Vigneau 2009
From the superb gravel soils of Pessac-Leognan/Graves and a classic vintage. Typifies the silky tannins, minerals and structure of the wines of this appellation. Made from Cabernet Sauvignon (70%), Merlot (30%). This wine has previously been reviewed by Winsor Dobbin who said "It's not easy to track down Bordeaux that is both affordable and drinkable, but this one fits the bill". 91 points in the GWT review this week. A Bordeaux Bargain. $38
Tourelles de Longueville 2008
Grapes from younger vines grown on a parcel of the estate (with a higher proportion of clay suiting merlot) make this affordable second wine from leading Pauillac Second Growth Cru Classé, Château Pichon-Longueville Baron. Merlot 62% Cab Sauvignon 28% Cab Franc 10%. Average age 20 years. 92 points Wine Spectator. Equal 5th (94 points) in Gourmet Wine Traveller Bordeaux Feature August 2014. This wine is under screwtop. $78
