DiscoverVin July Newsletter
Thanks for opening our July newsletter. We hope that you will enjoy browsing our news, some recent reviews, upcoming events and this month's special offer (40% off-see below). We have been thrilled to see more reviews for our wines in the media, with reviews this month for:
- the elegant organic red and white wines of Marc Darroze at Chateau Haut Peyrous in the Graves region of Bordeaux. This famous family of armagnac and Michelin star restaurant fame are turning heads with the wines from this renovated vineyard. The red wine is especially great value at $38.50
- Chateau Semeillan Mazeau "Wine of the Week" in the Canberra Times "An elegant 50/50 blend of merlot and cabernet, it offers ripened berry flavours, cut through with sturdy but round tannins-of an all-pervasive style that we never see in Australian cabernet-merlot blends, and which indeed, defines the "claret style". $49
- Domaine de l'Ancienne Cure Bergerac Rouge 2009 by wine writer David Sutherland. "This gorgeous red from the wonderfully lush '09 vintage is made from merlot and cabernet franc, is deep and youthful visually, with ripe fruitcake fruit aromas and hints of savouriness on the nose, followed by a palate of seamless spicy oak, ripe rich plum and berry fruit and a lovely length. " A lovely complex red and great value at this price. $33.80
These reviews were hot on the heels of last month's reviews:
We had a very busy month of events in July! DiscoverVin wines were served exclusively at The Brisbane French Festival dinner and at the wine bar at the Blue Blanc Rouge Festival in Sydney. It was great to see some of our old friends and meet new ones, some of whom are getting this newsletter for the first time! The wines were well received by the French and Francophiles celebrating Bastille Day (or "Le Fête National"). Congratulations to Joanne McLuskey who won a bottle of Productuers Plaimont Monastere Saint Mont Rouge 2006 at the Bleu Blanc Rouge Festival! We have lots of events coming up - check out the panel below and follow us on Twitter and Facebook for updates. Sadly the Tour de France is over for another year. I am sure you will agree the coverage and the scenery is fantastic. For all of you who bought Tour Packs - thank you and we hope that you enjoyed the wines! Hope to see you at one of our upcoming events (below), but in the meantime drink well!

92 points & "Best Import" Huon Hooke
"The colour is medium to full yellow and the bouquet evokes citrus blossom, honeysuckle and many other appealing fragrances. The palate is delicate, seamless and gently fruity, with a trace of sweetness early, then a clean, dry finish, with balanced acidity. It’s a lovely wine but drink it soon because the synthetic stopper is not designed for cellaring. 13 per cent alcohol. 92/100" $27.75

Several customers ask us for suggestions of wines to put in the cellar. Here are some of our current suggestions at different price points (posted May 2013). These offer good drinking now but will repay some time in the cellar. They have proven very popular since they were launched 2 months ago.
Chateau Lagarde 2009 (Saint Emilion) $29.90 - If you are a fan of Saint Émilion or Merlot, or just looking for a good wine at a great price, it’s pretty hard to go past this wine! (2013-2018). Chateau Haut-Vigneau 2009 (Pessac-Leognan) $38 - Typifies the silky tannins, minerals and structure of the wines of Pessac-Leognan on the outskirts of Bordeaux (drinking now but keep until 2020+).
2 bottles of each wine - buy the starter pack and save. Buy now for $210 for 6 bottles.

Wine Column Wine without BS called this one of two affordable French wines that they actually liked! (The other was Domaine du Crampilh Madiran Vignes VIelles 2009) "this wine drank much better than I expected for a Bordeaux priced at under $30!... Enjoyable to drink, this wine benefited greatly from decanting and was at its best over an hour later. Definitely a great entry level Bordeaux for people looking to experience it perhaps for the first time." $29.90
