Product Description
Lussac Saint Émilion is a northerly “satellite” appellation of Saint Émilion on the right bank of Bordeaux. The combination of Merlot dominating Cabernet Franc is distinctive of this appellation. Cabernet Sauvignon is much less commonly planted as the soils of this area are thought to be more suited to merlot and cabernet franc.
Region/Terroir: Lussac Saint Émilion
Grapes: Merlot (60%), Cabernet Franc (30%), Cabernet Sauvignon (10%).
Soil: Clayey gravel.
Alcohol: 14% VOL
Wine making: Manual harvest and sorting. Aged in barrels (30% new) for one year.
Cellaring potential: Drinking well now with great fruit, but will repay several years in the cellar.
Our Tasting notes: A garnet red colour, almost black with purple hints. A concentrated complex nose, well ripened black fruit: blackcurrant, blackberry, plum and cherry. The fruit flavour follows through on the palate with fleshy, round velvety tannins and vanilla and toasty notes. Lovely balance, aromatic and good persistence.
And here is a review by Winsor Dobbins 28/5/2012 "Affordable Bordeaux: Smooth/characterful Chateau la Fleur Potou 10 Lussac St Emilion. Imported by DiscoverVin . Could drink lots of this. $25"
This is a good value drinkable Bordeaux from a highly regarded vintage. In the great vintages such as 2010, there is often value to be found amongst small producers such as this. This generous wine is a good example of the type of value for money wines that DiscoverVin is trying to bring downunder.
